The Trisakti Shootings The Trisakti shootings happened on 12 may 1998, the tragedy took place at Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia. The demonstration demanding President Suharto's retirement because of the suffered of Indonesian economy in 1997 and 1998 due to the Asian financial crisis. By 1998, hundreds of students from universities across the country were demonstrating and calling for President Suharto's retirement. On 9 May 1998, a police officer, Dadang Rusmana, was reported that he have been killed at a demonstration at Djuanda University. On 12 may 1998 Four students, Elang Mulia Lesmana, Heri Hertanto, Hafidin Royan, and Hendriawan Sie were killed and many more were injured. Gun shots were heard and screaming followed. Tear gas was everywhere.
